Fajr Capital Foundation signs partnership agreement with UNHCR to “support and protect refugees around the world”

Eight year old Syrian refugee holds a basketball as he sits in the courtyard of the tent where he lives with his family in an informal tented settlement in Al-Marj, in the Bekaa Valley, East Lebanon, Friday, March 15, 2018.

Fajr Capital Foundation (or “the Foundation”) has today signed a partnership agreement with UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency, to support and protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people around the world.

From the families fleeing conflict in Syria to the Rohingya seeking refuge in Bangladesh, the global refugee crisis is one of the most pressing challenges facing our world today and requires governments, businesses, and civil society to broaden and deepen cooperation.

Fajr Capital Foundation is committed to providing hope and opportunities to people across its constituent markets. The partnership with UNHCR will allow the Foundation to support valuable humanitarian assistance and development programmes in territories with a high concentration of refugees, including the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

As well as mobilising institutional capital, the Foundation will also provide long-term support via membership of the UNHCR’s Sustainability Board in the Middle East and leverage Fajr Capital’s expertise in areas such as Islamic finance, renewable energy, and education.
